Trump & Musk Playin’ With Federal Jobs, Tellin’ Folks to “Check In or Check Out”
In the latest round of “Let’s see how far we can push it,” Trump and Elon Musk got federal workers shook this weekend. Outta nowhere, folks started gettin’ emails Saturday afternoon askin’ them to explain what they did last week—like they on probation or somethin’. Musk even hopped on X talkin’ bout, “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”
But here’s where it get messy—a whole bunch of national security agencies, including the FBI, told their people to hold off before sayin’ anything. Seems like even the executive branch ain’t know this was comin’ or how it was gonna play out.
The email came from some new HR address under the Office of Personnel Management—but it was lookin’ real suspect with no signature and a dry subject line: “What did you do last week?”
The message basically said:
👉🏾 Drop five bullet points of what you got done last week
👉🏾 CC ya manager
👉🏾 Don’t send classified info, links, or attachments
Mfs got copies of these emails from multiple agencies, and they even came marked with that red exclamation point—so you know they was tryin’ to make it serious.
Musk Out Here Playin’ With People’s Jobs
This lil’ surprise audit hit right after Musk made a post sayin’ federal workers had to check in on what they been doin’.
"Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week," Musk posted.
Trump been gassin’ Musk up, tellin’ him to “be more aggressive.”
Now, while the email itself don’t say nonresponse = resignation, it did slap on a Monday 11:59 PM deadline—which got folks wonderin’ what happens if they don’t reply.
Agencies Tell Workers: Sit Tight, Don’t Say Nothin’ Yet
Some of the biggest agencies ain’t havin’ it. The FBI Director Kash Patel sent out a message tellin’ agents don’t reply just yet. Same energy over at the NSA, CIA, Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense—they all told their people to hold off ‘til they get official word from higher-ups.
Even the State Department let folks know they ain’t gotta answer:
"The State Department will respond on behalf of the Department. No employee is obligated to report their activities outside their Department chain of command," an email from Tibor Nagy, acting undersecretary, read.
But Secret Service? They told their folks to go ahead and comply but reminded them they got “resources” for anybody feelin’ uneasy.
Unions & Workers Ain’t Feelin’ It
Union leaders ain’t wastin’ no time callin’ this out. Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, let it be known:
"It’s cruel and disrespectful to make federal workers justify their jobs to some out-of-touch, privileged billionaire who ain’t never worked a real public service job in his life."
Kelley said they ready to take legal action if they see folks gettin’ wrongfully fired over this nonsense.
Doreen Greenwald, from the National Treasury Employees Union, called the email “completely un-American” and said fed workers ain’t backin’ down from these lil’ power plays.
One federal worker summed it up real plain:
"This is straight-up insulting. Our work is already tracked, so what’s the point? This just feel like a sneaky way to push people out."
Another worker? They ain’t takin’ no chances:
"Personally, I’m afraid to not respond after Elon said no reply = resignation. My homies in another agency debating if they should actually list what they did or just hit ‘em with the oath to the Constitution."
Trump & Musk Tryna Shake Up the Gov
Trump got Musk runnin’ the Department of Government Efficiency (aka, tryna clean house in a real messy way).
An OPM spokesperson said the emails were just about “commitment to an efficient and accountable federal workforce.” But let’s keep it real—Trump and Musk been makin’ moves to cut down the federal workforce, put more political appointees in place, roll back civil service protections, and kill off diversity efforts.
Trump out here talkin’ bout “We got a country to save!” while Musk over there playin’ boss with no real authority.
At the end of the day, this whole thing lookin’ real suspect—and a lot of folks ain’t fallin’ for it.
