Venus? sittin’ this one out.
Ayy so peep —Venus ain’t slidin’ to Indian Wells next month. They hit her with a wild card invite, and she straight up said, “Nah, I’m good.” Tournament made it official on Sunday.
Bruh runnin’ the tourney, Tommy Haas, was like, “Yeah, we heard Venus ain’t takin’ the wild card this year. We wish her the best and hope she pull up in the future.”
This ain’t even a shock, though. Shorty already told Tennis Weekly she wasn’t poppin’ out.
“I ain’t playin’,” she said. “I’m finna be overseas. Y’all won’t see me out there.”
She got the invite last week, and if she took it, this woulda been her first time back since she caught that L at the Miami Open in 2024. Real talk, she ain’t won a match since August 2023.
Venus been to Indian Wells nine times, first touchin’ down back in ‘94. But after they did Serena dirty in 2001—booin’ her and droppin’ all that racist energy—Venus said, “Bet, I’m out,” and ain’t touch that court again ‘til 2016.
Last time she played there? Took an L to some chick from Japan, Nao Hibino.
Look, Venus might not be runnin’ things like she used to, but let’s not act brand new—seven Grand Slam singles titles, 14 doubles, two mixed, plus an Olympic gold medal in 2000. And she stacked three more golds in doubles from 2000, 2008, and 2012.
Lately, though, injuries been slowin’ her up, and her rankin’ done dipped all the way to 974th.
BNP Paribas Open still goin’ down March 2-16, but Venus? She chillin’.
